Craftsman Bungalow Sconce

Cherry, walnut, stained glass, & leather
Stained glass by Lynne Heinzmann of  N. Kingston, Rhode Island
$1,275

The Arts and Crafts movement that started in England in the 1880s and quickly spread to North America was a celebration of traditional craftsmanship in the face of the industrial revolution. Architects, furniture makers, stained glass artists, and many others designed and made simple but elegant pieces that have withstood the test of time.

One of the finest examples of Craftsman style architecture and furniture is the Gamble House in Pasadena, California. Brothers Charles and Henry Greene designed the house and all of the furnishings, most of which are preserved to this day in the house, which is a National Historic Landmark. I visited the house in 2016 and was overwhelmed by its beauty. A set of sconces in the living room particularly caught my eye and inspired this piece.

Comes with a cord for plugging into a wall outlet.
